Logo Research
Symbol
The SingTel symbol consists of an ellipse and two squares. The ellipse shows that SingTel is in the global network. It also represents SingTel's increasingly active role in international activities. The squares represent the modern and advanced technology used in the telecommunications business.
Logotype
The corporate logotype identifies the company by name. The specially designed serif typeface, known as Corporate A Type, is selected because of its contemporary look, and warm and friendly impact, which conveys SingTel's attitude towards its customers.
Corporate Colours
The corporate colours have been specially chosen to convey the uniqueness of SingTel. SingTel Red and SingTel Black represent stability, the foundation of experience, expertise and a commitment to the best possible service which SingTel has built up over the years. SingTel Grey, which has been selected for the secondary graphics of square pattern, complements the colours for the corporate symbol.
The logo represents the wing of the Greek Goddess. The Nike logo is a classic case of a company gradually simplifying its corporate identity as its frame increases. The company's first logo appeared in 1971, when the word "Nike," the Greek goddess of victory, was printed in orange over the outline of a checkmark, the sign of a positive mark. Used as a motif on sports shoes since the 1970s, this checkmark is now so recognizable that the company name itself has became superfluous.
1971 - 1987
"Terry [Heckler] also poured over old marine books until he came up with a logo based on an old sixteenth-century Norse woodcut: a two-tailed mermaid, or siren, encircled by the store’s original name, Starbucks Coffee, Tea, and Spice. That early siren, bare-breasted and Rubenesque, was supposed to be as seductive as coffee itself."
1986 - 1987
"Our logo reflected the emphasis on speed. The Il Giornale name was inscribed in a green circle that surrounded a head of Mercury, the swift messenger god." [pg. 88] (Note: Please excuse the poor condition of the Il Giornale logo. I scanned the image from a many times photocopied memo from Il Giornarle letterhead.)
1987 - 1992
"To symbolize the melding of the two companies [Il Giornarle and Starbucks] and two cultures, Terry [Heckler] came up with a design that merged the two logos. We kept the Starbucks siren with her starred crown, but made her more contemporary. We dropped the tradition-bound brown, and changed the logo’s color to Il Giornarle’s more affirming green."

Newspaper Assignment
Is there a difference on the newspapers on weekdays or weekends?
Yes, there are differences between a weekday and a weekend newspaper. A weekend newspaper focuses on more in-depth entertainment in comparison to a weekday newspaper. This basically means that there are more movies promoted/recommended, places to relax, latest fashion, food places, advertisements, and many more. Well, I think that the reason why entertainment section is heavily promoted on a weekend newspaper is because more people will be at home and away from school and work since its a weekend, a holiday for most of the people. Thus, to make more money, the entertainment section is heavily promoted as it involves buying and paying. Apart from that, there are also more pictures and graphics to attract the readers' attention while browsing through the paper.
On the other hand, the weekdays newspaper has less entertainment than the weekend newspaper. The reason is simple, many people will be extremely busy with their school and work and they will have little or no time to even read the newspaper, let alone spend their money on entertainment purposes. Well, I'm not implying anything but thats what a country is for, suck out the money of teenagers and people alike so that the government will earn more.
The weekdays newspaper is heavily focus on politics, current affairs and also tv programs. Well, since people have been home from school or work, they are bound to be lethargic, thus, tv is their next best friend.

The Car
In this ad, it used all of the car's parts and creativity to attract the audience. The sounds of the parts are smooth, clear, and not muffled.
This ad focuses on the brand of the car, which is Honda. It wants to show that people will pay more attention to u if u use a more branded car. Thus, its implying the male masculinity and dominant theory, in which people will look up to you and respect you if you own a more branded item.
This ad focuses on sexuality to attract the audience. Its playing with people's irrational emotion by stating that the car is the most important thing on Earth and that you wouldn't a care anything else apart from the car. Thus, its also implying the need to have this Mercedez car so as to relieve your stress, even in the winter cold.
This ad also focuses on sex to attract the consumers. While sports car is very open, this Panda car, although looks cheap and uncool, fits the desire of man to do it in the car. Thus, its making its disadvantage (uncool cheap look) to an advantage so that the male will buy it. Thus, it promotes the man's desire.
In this ad, there is some sort of animal cruelty but its effective and funny though.
They didn't really give a clear and concrete idea to buy their brand of car (Opel), but rather, because of it, you would do anything to make the car clean and shiny, even to the extent of animal cruelty.
What do you think of consumerism towsrds the automobile is like in Singapore?
I think that in Singapore, all we want is to show off our branded stuffs, so that we will be respected. Also, for man, pride is a huge deal and they will do anything for their pride. Thus, I think that people in Singapore nowadays are just buying the most powerful, expensive and newest car available. This also applies to females who want to prove that they are better than man and to challenge them. I conclude that people go for the expensive car so as to be in a better position and feel more confident.
